Aviation is changing. ReFuelEU Aviation is calling for a growing share of sustainable aviation fuel in all European refueling. Sunpine does not manufacture the jet fuel itself, but supplies a certified, traceable raw material – Raw Tall Oil – that can be further refined into advanced biofuels for aviation. This is how we contribute to reducing emissions, drop by drop.

The aviation sector is facing a historic transformation. The EU’s new ReFuelEU Aviation regulation means that all European airports must mix a certain proportion of sustainable aviation fuel – Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) – into all refuelling. The proportion will increase gradually, from 2 % in 2025 to at least 70 % in 2050. This means that the demand for sustainable raw materials for aviation fuel will grow exponentially in the coming decades.

Sustainable aviation fuel is crucial to reducing aviation emissions. It works in existing engines and infrastructure and has up to 80 % lower carbon footprint compared to fossil jet fuel over its entire life cycle. At the same time, the availability of suitable raw materials for this aviation fuel is limited.

Sunpine plays an important role in this ecosystem – not as a manufacturer of the jet fuel itself, but as a supplier of the sustainable raw material behind it. Our Crude Tall Oil Diesel is made from crude tall oil, a waste stream from the paper and pulp industry. This means that our product does not require new resources or land, but is based on us taking advantage of an already existing resource.

The journey towards a fossil-free aviation industry

The raw tall oil can be further refined into advanced biofuels, which are then used to produce SAF. Through this, Sunpine contributes to the ambition of a fossil-free aviation industry. Our raw tall oil is ISCC certified, which means full traceability from raw material to finished product.
